PAYE Tax Refunds

A tax refund is money you may be owed if you have paid too much tax. This can happen for a number of reasons, including being placed on the wrong tax code, changing jobs, paying tax through CIS deductions, or claiming tax relief on eligible work-related expenses. In some cases, people do not realise they have overpaid until their tax position is reviewed properly.

A tax refund is not always about a payroll mistake. It can also arise when you have paid for allowable job-related costs yourself and may be entitled to tax relief. The exact amount depends on your individual circumstances, income, deductions, and the type of claim involved.

At GO TAX REFUNDS, we help make the tax refund claim process clearer, simpler, and easier to manage. Whether you may have overpaid through PAYE, been affected by an emergency tax code, had CIS deductions taken, or paid eligible work-related expenses yourself, we help you understand what may apply to your situation. Our support includes reviewing your circumstances, identifying whether you may be entitled to a tax refund or tax relief, and guiding you through the next steps in a clear and straightforward way.

Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) Tax Refunds

If you work in construction under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), you may be entitled to a tax refund from HMRC. This often happens when too much tax has been deducted from your pay throughout the year. Many subcontractors, including builders, plumbers, joiners, decorators, and labourers, could be owed back money.

You may also be able to claim certain work-related expenses, such as business travel, tools, equipment, and meals while working away. Claiming the right allowable costs can reduce the amount of tax you owe and increase your refund. In many cases, this can add up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

At Go Tax Refunds, we make the process simple and hassle-free. We can help you check if you are eligible for a CIS tax refund, and we can also take care of filing your CIS Self Assessment tax returns for you. Just answer a few quick questions through our online form, and we will help you get your claim started

Self Assessment Tax Returns

A Self Assessment tax return is how HMRC works out how much tax you owe, or whether you are due a refund. Even if you already pay tax through PAYE, you may still need to complete a tax return if you have extra income, are self-employed, or want to claim allowable expenses and tax relief.

You may need to file a Self Assessment tax return if you are self-employed, a sole trader, a subcontractor under CIS, a company director, or if you receive income from things like property, savings, investments, or freelance work. In some cases, HMRC may also ask you to file a return if you have untaxed income or need to report additional earnings.

At Go Tax Refunds, we make Self Assessment simple. We can help you complete and file your tax return accurately, making sure everything is submitted properly and that you claim everything you are entitled to, without the stress of dealing with HMRC yourself.

Making tax digital

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is HMRC’s plan to modernise the UK tax system by moving it to a fully digital process. For individuals, this means for self-employed workers and landlords will need to keep digital records and use compatible software to report income to HMRC, rather than relying only on the traditional Self Assessment method.

Making Tax Digital is a new way of managing tax for individuals with self-employment or property income. It is designed to make tax reporting more accurate, more up to date, and easier to manage by requiring digital record-keeping and regular online submissions through HMRC-recognised software. From 6 April 2026, it will apply to individuals with qualifying income over £50,000.

HMRC has also confirmed that it will expand to those with qualifying income over £30,000 from 6 April 2027, and over £20,000 from 6 April 2028. At Go Tax Refunds, we can help you prepare for MTD, stay compliant, and make the whole process much simpler.
